Our Dirty Laundry

Our longtime official band mother Malia James accompanied us to Texas last month, and this is what it looked like, apparently. Tim cussed a lot. And if you'll blink, you'll miss hearing a couple of never-before-heard snippets from our new record. Check it out on Dirty Laundry and win a copy of 2 on vinyl!

22 July 2009

Attn: Western World

Two tours rolled into one long slithery thing. It's a migratory beast, that, with the shortening of days each autumn, journeys to climes where the days are even shorter and the nights are even colder. It will be easily distinguishable from what you may have seen of it in the past by its prominent upper incisors, mottled snout, golden underbelly, and crispy exoskeleton. This time, it will snake from Philadelphia back west to Los Angeles, leaving its slime trail through the south. Then it will head further east to Europe, where it will speak 8 different languages, sometimes simultaneously, before cooling off in London and neighbouring villages for a spell. Details follow.

Leg 1:
Meeting in the semifinals of the 2009 tour-off will be European bracket winners A Place To Bury Strangers and U.S. victors All the Saints, in keeping with the official band New Year's Resolution to do as many tours as possible with as few bands as possible. For the environment's sake.
(If you don't recall, we've already toured with each of those bands this year, and it was so much fun we're back for more [and sorry for the abrupt switch to first person. That third person thing was getting old.])
This also means there will be even more high-stakes backstage poker, especially given the fiery, tight-fisted presence of Jim Crook of All the Saints and the here-take-my-money-ness of the good-timin' Ollie Ackermann.
A Place To Bury Strangers headlines. Dates here:

10.4. Philadelphia, PA. Johnny Brenda's

Leg 2:
After taking a few hours to catch our breaths on the 17th, we'll teleport to Europe, where we're supporting White Lies. This is most exciting because we get to play Luxembourg, and who ever gets to do that? Next time, Liechtenstein and/or Andorra.

10.22. Rotterdam, Holland. Watt

And then keep the 16th thru the 20th open for some UK dates.

Here's a poster Tim made. It's more fun if you print it out.

EUROPE

So the story - the long version - goes like this: A while back, we dropped our name in one of those enter-to-win free-European-vacation sweepstakes boxes at Ralph's, and craziest thing - like, what are the odds, y'know? - we won! So all we had to do was figure out when to go, and that was when we noticed that A Place To Bury Strangers was touring Europe the first 2 weeks of April. Coincidence? Perhaps. So we decided to follow 'em around - after all, it's spring break for us, and Widespread Panic's not touring this year. But the kicker is that That Very Place To Bury Strangers actually took note of our travel plans, and asked us to play with them! Weird, wild stuff.

The short version is that we're finally going/coming to Europe, supporting A Place To Bury Strangers, and Dead Confederate will even be there too for some of it. Here:

Tue 3.31 Tue. Dublin, Ireland. Whelan's
Wed 4.1. Glasgow, UK. Stereo
Thur 4.2. Manchester, UK. Ruby Lounge
Fri 4.3. Leeds, UK. Cockpit
Sun 4.5. Birmingham, UK. Barfly
Mon 4.6. London, UK. Kings College
Tue 4.7. Paris, France. Mecanique Ondulatoire
Sat 4.11. Cologne, Germany. Werkstatt
Sun 4.12. Stuttgart, Germany. Universum
Mon 4.13. Zurich, Switzerland. Abart
Tue 4.14. Munich, Germany. 59:1
Wed 4.15. Berlin, Germany. Knaack Klub

Needless to say, we couldn't be more excited. This is something we've looked forward to from the day we started recording 2. Also, keep an eye on that gap in the middle... more shows to be announced!

vote for us, etc.

So! We’re up for this Yahoo Music thing. It’s either called Users’ Choice or Who’s Next? or both or something like that. We normally don't endorse competition between bands and contests and Contest Bands and all that, but hey, if we beat Dr. Dog and The Duke Spirit and The Airborne Toxic Event, it makes us look really good, which means there is a better chance we will come to your town and rip the jams and hang out with y'all. So please kindly click this huge Yahoo link below and vote vote vote for Das Dudes!

Also! Our friend and mentor John Webster Johns has really really really sadly had to bail on the Troubadour show on August 7. It was sure gonna be something else, but now you'll never get to see it. BUT, the silver lining is that we done got our also-friends Tweak Bird to fill the void. And remember, for $9.99 you get to see not only us dudes and Eulogies and Amnion and Tweak Bird, but you also get a copy of our new CD 2!!!

Finally, Nylon Magazine has one of the more interesting blurbs on us thus far. This comes on the heels of the fashion spread we did for them last year.
