On the road again

Alright, alright, we're back, we're okay, we're moving into the future at the speed of 83 mph, presently thru an eyeful of blinding salt, in the land of 2.5%-or-whatever-it-is alcohol. The first person to read this in the next hour and comment with the best place to eat lunch in Salt Lake City will win a sweet tip on the best place to find a 5 dollar buffet with $1.50 Bud and Bud Light in the Reno area on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Our first show is gonna be Monday in Iowa City, which is in Iowa. We feel bad for those of you in Des Moines who were planning on seeing us tonight, but we hope you'll find solace in the fact that your buddy's sister's boyfriend is driving to Iowa City anyway, and that maybe you can get him to drop you off at The Picador on his way to the Fossil Gorge. It's our first show, and now our only warm-up show before the Dandy Warhols portion of the tour, so, y'know, anything goes. We're excited.

Again, we're real sorry about all those shows we had to cancel over the last week. You've all been wonderfully supportive and understanding. We gonna make it up to you real nice.

Hi all. Hope you and yours are well. Just wanted to let you know that we've had to cancel at least this next week of shows. Our first priority will always be family, and that's where our heads and hearts are now. We really appreciate your understanding.

So, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, Boise, and Salt Lake City - we promise we'll make it up to you next time around. As for this time, we're still trying to figure out when and where we'll resume. We'll let you know soon. Sorry, and thanks again.

TODAY

Is the day. It's like Christmas, the 4th of July, and Veteran's Day all rolled up into one rad Superday. Because not only is it our own Jared's hallowed birthday, it's also the day our second album - called 2, natch - hits the ground running.

Today's been a long time coming for us. We started the process last January, and finished recording in December. And now it's August. That's a long time. But what that means is that we made sure we did every little thing the right way, and gave every nook + cranny the attention it deserved. And not to sound too gloatsome and all, but we're really proud of it. After all, we'd better be, eh? So go forth to thine local record emporium and pick up a copy or (ahem) 2. Which, point is, you can do as of right now. You can tell us what you think too (2), with the fear of only mild repercussions.

LOOK! presents a collection of Los Angeles and San Francisco based artists employing a variety of mediums: paintings, sculpture, collage, drawing and installation. Curated by Emily Sills, the exhibition includes artists Deedee Cheriel, Courtney Duncan, Katrin Jurati, Katie Lewis, Lumivalkoinen, Sam Lubicz, Sarah Jean Madson, Tim Presley, Bailey Salisbury, Carlos Saul Laszlo and Daren Wilson.

LOOK! constructs sporadic interconnectedness through the relationship of the different pieces to each other. The cohesion of the show is the story of the art itself and the story each artist tells via their medium. Adapted from the School of Language Poets’ concept of “The New Sentence,” LOOK! takes the idea of object referentially or objects posed for friction to create meaning. The exhibit offer lapses and layers so the mind can move freely from one subject to other, welcoming the onlooker to participate and bring their own interpretation or unedited stream of consciousness. LOOK! is to stay in a perpetual beginning where each piece comments on and are commented on by the surrounding pieces.

Good morning. I'm assuming it's morning when you're reading this. If it's not, come back when it is.

Just a couple updates:

Just noticed that we somehow never got around to mentioning this... We recorded a cover of Lee Hazelwood’s (via the voice of Sanford Clark) “The Fool” back in February for this neat lil promotion by shoe-people PF Flyers. The concept was a buncha Dangerbird artists record songs from 1956 to commemorate the reissue of those sweet-ass ’56 Bob Cousy kicks. So we did this song, knocked it out in a day, and got one Bob Mustachio (of The Warlocks) to pitch in too, since it was a Sunday and, y’know, it was an excuse to get out of the house. Also, FYI, BTW, CMYK: “The Fool” is the first song Lee Hazelwood ever wrote, or something like that. And, of course, the last song was “Claws & Paws.” Alright alright, go get it here.
